“Greece wishes for tranquillity and peace among the countries in our region. We are not interested in bullying or strife. They [Turkey] must, though, understand that Eastern-type Cowboy behaviour will not be tolerated by Greece.”
The Greek Defence Minister was addressing the issue of the ever increasing violations of Greek airspace and territorial waters by Turkey’s air force and navy, on a daily basis, and the constant claims by that country’s political establishment of “Grey Zones” in the Aegean Sea.
There is indeed an agreement signed by the two countries on the demilitarisation of some Greek Islands in the Aegean, but that agreement cannot possibly be adhered to if these very Islands are being threatened with an invasion by Turkey.
